Requirements
In December 2005 Mezz-Rack Systems was awarded a contract to project manage a very complex project for the storage of over 10,000 cylinders.
The company, who are a world wide leading manufacture of packaging to various industries, were looking to build a warehouse extension. It was important that the new racking systems were sufficient to double the capacity of the existing stock holding, also allowing for future growth.
The company already had an existing mobile racking system and we agreed that it may be best utilized in the new warehouse. However, the existing shelving system was deemed not suitable under the regulations and we had to look at a unique / bespoke design shelf that was suitable for the storage of varying length, weight and diameter of cylinders that could be located randomly on the rack system. Solution
We now had to work to a very tight delivery and installation schedule, especially as the builders Rok Construction were reliant on certain parts of our installation (Track Installation) being undertaken at precise times to keep their building work on track. We also had to take into account that the racking installations had to be undertaken within a very tight timescale and in keeping with the Company manufacturing schedules.
Mezz-Rack Systems, on receipt of the contract, immediately went to work on procurement of the materials and had to work to the following parameters:
- Supply, installation and commissioning of tracks, before the concrete base is laid.
- Installation of new bases and ‘Metalsistem’ galvanized Racking.
- Client would then transfer cylinders from their existing racks to the new.
- Dismantle existing racking bases, and transfer bases to new warehouse for assembly.
- Fit new ‘Metalsistem’ galvanized Racking to the bases.
- Wire up and commission.
- Build static pallet racking to adjacent part of warehouse for the storage of pallets.
- Re-organise existing warehouse.
To undertake the installation of this project, and to an extremely tight timescale, our installation teams had to fit in a number of week-ends, even allowing for other contractors on site who were extremely helpful to say the least.
Outcome
The installation went to schedule and a few extras (admit to oversight), audible warning signals and timer delays for the mobiles, were added at no extra cost to the Client.
